Mural-sized Painting

BIRD OF PREY’S BRAMBLES

Come visit the art studio to see the finished large mural-sized painting.

This project is a big stretch goal for me.

My studio is a place where I give myself stretch assignments to grow in my practice working with oil paint materials. In 2024-2025, my self-assignment is to paint a mural-sized painting on 5′ x 10′ Yupo. I feel a sense of anticipation and challenge in the work. My ideas for this extra large image are written in a notebook, some reference images or books are spread out on the work tables to influence my direction. For this extra large format, I work on Yupo stapled directly to a wall dedicated to this project. I’m using different brushes and tools to work in this large format. Chairs are available across the room for sitting to observe work in progress at a distance to take in the whole scene. On any given workday the studio may look like things are on hold at a standstill or may look chaotic with lots of activity and strewn materials; however, this is an integration experience for me to put it visually all together. My studio is a place of freedom to stretch, do new things and express what is in my mind transforming it into a physical representation with oil paint.
